Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about our heritage tours
What makes your tours different from typical sightseeing?
Our tours focus on meaningful cultural engagement rather than surface-level sightseeing. With small groups of no more than six guests, we create space for genuine conversations with local artisans, temple caretakers, and community members. You'll participate in daily life, taste authentic cuisine at family-run establishments, and gain insights into the layered histories of Peranakan, Chinese, Malay, and Indian cultures that shape Penang.
How long do the tours last and what is included?
Our Georgetown Walking Discovery is a half-day experience including breakfast and guided exploration. The Penang Heritage Immersion spans two days with accommodation, all meals, and transport included. The Complete Cultural Residency offers five days of immersive experiences with stays at a restored Peranakan mansion, workshops, cooking classes, and evening performances. Each tour includes all entry fees, guided experiences, and meals as specified.
Who are your guides and what languages do they speak?
Our guides are Penang natives with deep knowledge of local heritage and culture. They speak English fluently and often multiple local languages including Hokkien, Cantonese, and Malay. Many have academic backgrounds in history, architecture, or cultural studies, combined with personal family connections to the communities we visit. Their passion for sharing Penang's stories creates authentic, engaging experiences.
What is your approach to responsible tourism?
We maintain small group sizes to minimize impact on heritage sites and local communities. Our tours support local businesses, artisans, and family-owned establishments. We emphasize respectful engagement with religious sites and cultural practices, providing context and guidance to ensure visitors interact appropriately. A portion of tour proceeds supports heritage preservation initiatives in Georgetown.
How do I book a tour and what is your cancellation policy?
You can book through our contact form or by calling +60 4-826 7491. We require a deposit to secure your reservation, with the balance due seven days before the tour. Cancellations made more than 14 days in advance receive a full refund minus a small administrative fee. Cancellations within 14 days are subject to a 50% charge, while cancellations within 48 hours are non-refundable. We understand circumstances change and will work with you to reschedule when possible.
What should I bring and how should I dress?
Comfortable walking shoes are essential, as Georgetown tours involve several hours on foot through historic streets. Dress respectfully for temple and mosque visits, covering shoulders and knees. We recommend light, breathable clothing suitable for tropical climate. Bring sun protection, a water bottle, and a small bag for personal items. For multi-day tours, we provide a detailed packing list upon booking confirmation.
